The Calyx vase was hand formed in T1 clay, glazed with Erie Blue on the exterior and Turquoise Matte inside, then fired with soda ash to cone 10. In the kiln, the glazes interacted in unexpected ways with the soda ash, creating a surface that feels alive: brown sparlky texture meets deep blue pocket, matte green shimmers with gem-like speckles. Its form, opening like a flower’s calyx, softens the strenght of the fire by showing a delicate gesture of movement.
